How to plan a last-minute Albania trip
- Pick your base: Sarandë or Vlorë for beaches, Tirana for culture, Durrës for a short beach break.
- Book a flight to Tirana, or to Corfu for the south.
- Book the first night only; add more once you see the place.
- Take the airport bus to Tirana and an intercity bus onward, paying cash.
- Withdraw lek at a Credins or BKT ATM.
Where can I still find rooms last minute?
Sarandë, Vlorë, Durrës and Tirana have the most rooms and the widest price range. Ksamil and the smaller Riviera villages fill up first in July and August.
Berat, Gjirokastër and Shkodër rarely sell out, even in summer.
| Place | Last-minute availability in summer | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Sarandë | Good | Base for Ksamil, Butrint and the Blue Eye |
| Vlorë | Good | Long seafront, gateway to the Riviera |
| Durrës | Very good | Closest beach to Tirana and the airport |
| Ksamil | Tight in August | The famous islands and turquoise water |
| Himarë / Dhërmi | Medium | Riviera beaches, quieter than Ksamil |
Which airport should I fly into?
Tirana for most of the country. Corfu (Greece) for the far south: the ferry to Sarandë takes 30–75 minutes.
Vlorë's new airport was not open to passenger flights in October 2026.
Do I need to book buses in advance?
No. Intercity buses and furgons are paid in cash on board; just arrive 20–30 minutes early.
Tirana–Sarandë has about 20 departures a day in the official timetable; Tirana–Durrës about 69 on weekdays.
What will it cost?
Less than Greece, Croatia or Italy for food and transport. Beach areas in August are the exception: Ksamil sunbeds cost 2,000–4,000 ALL a pair.
Carry cash in lek; use Credins or BKT ATMs to avoid extra fees.
When is last minute easiest?
May, June, September and October: warm weather, plenty of rooms and lower prices.
In the first three weeks of August, book Ksamil and Riviera rooms as early as you can.
