Shkodër
Bicycles, café culture and the gateway to the Alps
A relaxed lakeside city of pastel buildings and bicycles. Almost every trip into the Albanian Alps — Theth, Valbona, the Komani ferry — starts with a night here.
When to go
May to September. Book a guesthouse early in July and August, when Alps traffic peaks.
Getting there
Two hours by furgon from Tirana. 4x4 minibuses to Theth and the Komani ferry leave very early — arrange them the evening before.
