Cash & old lek
Advice- Some people still quote prices in old lek: drop the last zero. "2,000" for a coffee means 200 lek.
- Pay in lek where you can. Prices in euro are often rounded up.
- Many ATMs charge a fee. The screen shows it before you confirm, so cancel and try another bank if it is high.
- Carry cash for buses, furgons, small cafés and villages.
Taxis
Advice- Agree the price before you get in, or ask for the meter ("me sahat").
- In Tirana, ride apps such as Speed Taxi or Merr Taxi show the price upfront.
- From Tirana airport, the airport bus to the centre is the cheapest option.
- Ask your hotel what the ride should cost and show the driver the amount.
