What currency is used in Albania?

The Albanian lek (ALL). Albania is not in the eurozone.

Notes run from 200 to 10,000 lek; coins from 1 to 100 lek.

Can I pay in euros in Albania?

Sometimes on the coast and in hotels, but the exchange rate is usually poor. Paying in lek is almost always cheaper.

What is old lek vs new lek?

In 1965 the lek was redenominated at 10:1. Many people still say prices in old lek, so a spoken price can sound ten times higher.

Written prices, receipts and card terminals always use new lek. If a number sounds absurd, divide by ten and ask.
