How to reach the Gamti Mountain viewpoint
- Drive from Tirana toward Zall-Herr and follow the winding road to Bovilla Lake.
- Park near the restaurant at the base of the mountain stairs.
- Follow the marked rocky path upward towards the metal stairs and balcony.
- Ascend the final steep section to reach the balcony for panoramic views over the lake.
How difficult is the Gamti Mountain hike?
The hike is considered easy to moderate, requiring a basic level of fitness to navigate steep, rocky sections.
While the trail is short, it involves a significant incline over a brief distance. Hikers must navigate uneven limestone rocks and a set of metal stairs near the viewpoint. It is suitable for children who are accustomed to walking, but caution is advised near the cliff edges.
How do you get to Bovilla Lake and Gamti Mountain from Tirana?
The best way to reach the trailhead is by car or guided tour, as there is no reliable public transport.
The drive from Tirana takes about 45 minutes to an hour. While the road has been improved, the final stretch near the dam remains unpaved and bumpy in sections. A 4x4 vehicle is not strictly required but is recommended during or after rainy weather when the road can become muddy.
What is the best time of year to visit?
Spring and autumn offer the best conditions, with mild temperatures and clear visibility.
Summer can be extremely hot, and there is very little shade on the ascent. If visiting in July or August, start the hike before 9:00 AM. Winter is feasible but the rocks can become slippery and dangerous when wet or icy.
Are there any entry fees or costs?
A small fee may be charged to access the metal staircase and balcony viewpoint.
Budget around 100 Lek per person for the stairs leading to the balcony, and confirm the charge on arrival. Parking is available near the restaurant; check any charge before leaving your car.
| Item | Estimated Cost |
|---|---|
| Balcony Entrance Fee | Around 100 Lek, if charged |
| Coffee at Restaurant | Around 100 - 200 Lek |
| Guided Day Trip | 30 - 50 EUR |
Is there drinking water available on the trail?
No, there are no water sources on the mountain trail itself.
Hikers should carry at least one litre of water per person. You can purchase supplies at the restaurant near the parking area before starting the climb.
