The tunnel project has been in progress for years and opening dates have moved. Check with your rental company or recent local news before you set off.
We'll update this page when the opening status is confirmed. The old pass road stays open either way, except in rare snow in winter.
Tunnel or pass — which should I choose?
Tunnel for speed, pass for the views. Many people drive one way through each.
| Tunnel | Old pass road | |
|---|---|---|
| Views | None | Some of Albania's best coastal views |
| Hairpins | No | Many, steep on the Dhërmi side |
| Stops | None | Viewpoints, cafés, forest, paragliding |
| Best for | Fast trip, nervous drivers | First-time visitors, photographers |
Is the Llogara Pass dangerous?
It is a well-paved road but steep and twisty. Drive slowly, use low gears downhill and be ready for buses and livestock.
Avoid driving it in the dark for the first time. Fog can come in quickly near the top.
What is there to do at the top?
Llogara National Park has pine forest, short trails, restaurants and a paragliding launch above Palasë beach.
See our Llogara National Park and paragliding guides.
