Tirana
Painted facades, bunker museums and a cable car to the mountains
Albania's capital is loud, colourful and easy to like. Almost everything worth seeing sits within a 20-minute walk of Skanderbeg Square, and a cable car lifts you out of the heat onto a 1,600 m mountain in 15 minutes.
When to go
All year. Spring and autumn are most comfortable; July and August are hot and many locals leave for the coast.
