What are the most common tourist scams in Albania?

Unagreed taxi fares, prices quoted in euros at bad rates, expensive sunbed pairs on the Riviera and ATM currency conversion.

Pickpocketing and violent crime against tourists are uncommon, but watch bags in crowded places.

How much should a sunbed cost?

As a guide, a pair of sunbeds with umbrella costs about 2,000–4,000 ALL in Ksamil, 1,500–2,500 in Himarë and 500–1,500 in Durrës.

By law at least part of every beach must be free public access — you can lay your towel there.

BeachSunbed pair (ALL)
Ksamil2,000–4,000
Himarë1,500–2,500
Durrës500–1,500

Do businesses have to give a receipt?

Yes. Every business must issue a fiscal receipt (kupon tatimor). Asking for one also discourages overcharging.

Who do I call if I'm overcharged?

Call the consumer protection hotline 0800 1111, or the state police on 129. For emergencies call 112.
